What is the difference between the NDIS and NDIA?

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is an independent agency whose role is to implement the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).

What is an access request?

It is the name of the process for joining the NDIS. You will need to complete some forms and provide background information about your disability so the NDIA can determine if you are eligible.

What are the NDIS eligibility criteria?

Eligibility is based on several criteria such as age, residency & disability. To meet the disability criteria, the NDIS requires evidence that your disability is caused by an impairment that is likely to be permanent, reduces your functional capacity and affects your ability to work, study or participate in the community.

Is there an age limit for the NDIS?

You may be eligible for the NDIS if you are aged between 9 and 65.

What is the early childhood approach?

The early childhood approach is designed to support children younger than 9 with disability or developmental delay and their families. If you have a child aged younger than 9 with a disability, you can contact an early childhood partner. The early childhood partner can provide connection to early supports and other services in the community. They can also help you apply for the NDIS if needed.

Are the NDIS means tested?

No. The value of your assets is not considered when determining eligibility. NDIS funding does not impact income support such as the Disability Support Pension or Carer Allowance.

How does NDIS funding work?

Funding under the NDIS is individualized, based on goals and outcomes and can be reviewed as your goals change.

My child has been diagnosed with ADHD. Are they eligible for the NDIS?

On its own, ADHD is not usually covered by the NDIS because it can be hard to meet the NDIS eligibility criteria.
